Amazon's Halo line of fitness trackers and wellness products is officially shutting down, the company announced on April 26. Despite debuting the first-generation Halo Band just under three years ago, Amazon said it made the "difficult decision" to end support for it.

The impacted products include the Halo Band and Halo View wearables, the Halo Rise smart lamp, and all Halo accessories.

When will Amazon Halo shut down?

All Amazon Halo devices will no longer function as of August 1, 2023, and all data, including body scan images and all tracked health information, will be deleted. Amazon has outlined how you can save your body scan images and health data and recommends doing so before August 1.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, the company says that it plans to refund all Halo purchases made in the last 12 months and that it would reimburse all unused prepaid Halo subscription fees.

Current paid subscriptions ended as of the announcement date on April 26, and Amazon says users won't need to do anything to trigger an eligible refund.

What should I do with my Halo product?

Halo owners can recycle their old products via the Amazon Recycling Program. The program provides prepaid shipping labels to cover all costs of sending the device to Amazon.

What's the best Amazon Halo alternative?

The end of the Amazon Halo program is no doubt frustrating for users, but there are plenty of other wearables that offer a similar experience.

Fitbit, for example, has a number of trackers that look nearly identical to the Halo View, including the Inspire 3 and the Charge 5, each of which deliver a quality user experience. Additionally, Fitbit's premium subscription service offers insights into daily nutrition, sleep habits, and customized workouts and works with a variety of partner brands like Calm, Les Mills, and obe.

The Apple Watch is also another solid, albeit pricey, alternative. Options include the flagship Apple Watch Series 8, the rugged Apple Watch Ultra, and budget choices like the Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 7. These tilt more toward being full-fledged smartwatches, but they still offer a deep well of premium fitness, health, and wellness features.
